Sliding scales strive to make services more accessible. They can also acknowledge—and work to counter—structural inequities that affect income (race, disability). Offering a sliding scale is one way I seek to leverage my own privilege and embed anti-oppression practices into the work I do: a micro-form of reparations and redistribution, and an ethic that extends from the personal to the systemic. I also edit with an inclusivity lens to ensure a piece of writing is fine-tuned to its most welcoming and respectful.
